Triangles |
Students will identify and describe types of triangles and their special segments. They will use logic to apply the properties of congruence, similarity, and inequalities. The students will apply the Pythagorean Theorem and trigonometric ratios to solve problems in real world situations. |
Archaeological Similarity (Pythagorean Theorem & converse)
This task allows students to use their knowledge of similar triangles, the Pythagorean Theorem, and the converse of the Pythagorean Theorem to solve a historically and culturally interesting problem while at the same time developing students’ understanding of mathematical proofs.
Altitude, Median, and Angle Bisector of a Triangle
In this activity, you will construct special segments of a triangle named altitudes, medians, and angle bisectors, using their definitions. You will look at how an altitude, a median, and an angle bisector divide the area of a triangle.
I Can Determine The Height Of A Rocket! (Application of trig ratios)
The lesson is intended to give students a fun real-world experience in applying their math skills. They will use trigonometric ratios to calculate heights of tall structures. They will also use the Internet to convert their calculations from standard to metric units and visa versa.
Satellite (Trig, properties of circles & triangles)
This task allows students to use trigonometry and properties of circles and triangles to find distances.
